Margaret Richardson Koch is originally from North Alabama, where she grew up along the banks of the Tennessee River. The Tennessee River is home to a series of impressive hydroelectric dams and huge lakes comprising the Tennessee Valley Authority. If you grow up in a city along the course of that river, it is part of your life. It is no accident that Margaret Koch’s mystery series is set along that river.
She received her B.A. in English and Art at Alabama, and since liberal arts graduates do not have easily-defined jobs waiting for them, she became a recreation director at nearby Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. While working at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, she met and married a Midwesterner and moved to Iowa. Her husband’s path through medical school and into practice, and raising a family occupied the next several years.

When her son left home for college, she went back to graduate school at the University of Iowa, and received her Ph.D. in psychology. Her dissertation focused on eating disorders and possible therapeutic avenues of treatment. Margaret and a group of associates practiced together for many years in a successful therapy practice in Iowa City, Iowa, where she still lives. Her work included forensics, neuropsychological screening and testing, and counseling and therapy with adults.
In 2006, Margaret returned to her first love, writing, and began writing the Dr. Stark Mystery Series, now at seven books, with the eighth to be released in fall, 2013.

The series is set in the Tennessee lake country that meanders along the course of the river and its huge hydroelectric dams, although her protagonist frequently visits Atlanta. Her protagonist, Dr. Barbara Stark, is a working psychologist in Duncan, a small resort city among the lakes. The series is meant to be an escape from everyday tasks – a pleasant interlude with humor, action and romance, and of course, a mystery to be solved. Margaret’s fondest hope is that her readers are entertained, and are smiling as they finish each book.

Books by Margaret Koch: BLONDE JOKE, CAMP SOUL, SONG OF THE MONSTER, POWER IN THE BLOOD, TO KILL AN ECHO, STARK RAVING, CAULDRON, and to come in fall, 2013, Book Eight, CATALYST!
