Over a hundred years ago, in a small town near the California coast, lived a young woman named Daphne Lindstrom. She was not only a beautiful woman, she was newly married to the most prominent citizen of Red Gap. Her strange disappearance created a local legend. Someone even wrote a book based on Daphne’s story.
Now, in the present day, Red Gap is no longer a redwood logging town. As Christina Dudley imagines it, in her novel “Everliving,” it’s a tourist destination. And it’s where botany student Ben Platt winds up, after a messy breakup with a cheating girlfriend – and a messy collision with a deer on an old logging road.
Now, for all these years, it turns out Daphne’s spirit has been a presence in Red Gap, and in the lives of one family in particular. And Ben must decide whether to answer a chilling call for help.
